Sanctuary Makanyane Safari Lodge is situated in a private concession of the malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve, one of South Africa’s premier big 5 game-viewing destinations. The lodge has just eight glass fronted suites, located in lush riverside forest with views over the Marico River. The stylish main lodge is on the edge of a ravine overlooking a waterhole frequently visited by game and has a spacious lounge and dining area which opens out onto a wide wooden outdoor deck, with spectacular views. A highlight includes the unique opportunity to spend a romantic night under the African sky in the lodge’s sleep-out hide.
Makanyane takes the meaning of luxury travel and expands it even further. With only a set number of rooms the place is very intimate experience. The guides are all highly trained and the fact that Makanyane owns their own private section of the reserve often means you will not see another game viewer for days and can enjoy the wildlife in private without other vehicles disturbing your time there. Long stay rates depend on duration of total stay and season of travel. The total stay can be in Sanctuary Makanyane Safari Lodge only, or be made up of shorter stays in Sanctuary Makanayane Safari Lodge and one or more other Sanctuary Retreats camps or lodges anywhere in Africa together. Stays in more than one camp or lodge do not need to be consecutive, but must belong to one itinerary. For example, if booking a total of 6 nights with Sanctuary Retreats in 3 different lodges or camps with 2 nights in each, use the ‘4 – 6 nights’ rates for each of the camps.
